Weekend Walkabout: The Ringling Bayfront Gardens of Sarasota, Florida

I am so very smitten by circus legend Mable Ringling's stunning gardens in Sarasota, Florida. The gardens just held their Century Anniversary last year, having been created during the boom years before the Great Depression and World Wars. Roses and Venetian sculpture were Mable's great loves, and the rose garden and gnome garden are my favorites. Here are some snapshots:
To really enjoy the gardens, you need at least three to four hours. If any of my readers have visited, let me know your impressions of this very special place!

  1. Hi Marla. It's nice to see a garden with plants growing and enjoying the weather. We are expecting a freeze tonight here in Maryland. Fortunately, I haven't put any frost tender plants out yet. My peas are up and growing but they can handle the cold.

I remember going to the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus many time when it came to Washington, D.C. where I lived. Sounds like a wonderful place to visit. I really like the gnomes hiding here and there in the gardens. I like the roses too, especially when I don't have to take care of them. Hope you are enjoying the beginning of spring.

  2. I remember the circus, too! The gardens are just wonderful, and the gnome garden is both whimsical and mysterious. Hope your spring warms up soon, with no more freezes!
